More rolling

And for those with a shorter attention span:

Now that she knows how to do this, she won't stop. She hasn't rolled front to back since the two times she did it a few weeks ago. But she really likes rolling back to front.

Anja is really vocal now. The Grandmas are going to love it when they see her next week! She makes a lot of really loud multi-syllable sounds. Sometimes they're pretty funny.

Anja is now 3 months old. We weighed and measured her today. She is 12lb5oz (54th percentile) and 24.5 inches (92nd percentile!) Tall and thin, if you base anything on those percentile charts, that is. Mostly the percentiles don't mean a whole lot, except that your child should be somewhere on the charts (between 1% and 99%) and should stay around the same percentile over time for both height and weight. There are also lots of fluctuations like growth spurts and plateaus, and kids like Anja who are born very thin and need to gain a lot in the beginning. But it's something fun to follow, as long as you keep it in perspective.

Newest trick

Once she figured this out today she didn't want to stop. This video is for true Anja fans. Are you willing to sit through 2 min and 36 sec of video to see the exciting conclusion?

Intentional movements

Anja is starting to understand that she controls her hands. She focuses on her butterfly and tries to grab it (sometimes successful)

She is also pretty good at moving to her side from her back now. Today I watched her try to roll all the way over from her back for about 30 minutes, but she couldn't quite get it.

And look at this last video, see how she tries to get to her stuffed lion!

How to camp when you're 12 weeks old

We went to Interlochen State Campground this weekend for Jay to run a triathlon and to meet up with Courtney and Cameron:

Trying to stay awake

Anja is just beginning to understand that she can do things with her hands. She doesn't reach for toys, but she will bat around this rattley toy attached to her bouncy seat. This video is funny because she's really trying not to fall asleep:

Three out of the last four nights she's slept 7 hours! Daytime is still really variable, some days she naps and some days she's up most of the day and is really cranky. She hits the "witching hour" around 7:30 or 8:00 almost every day when it really becomes work to settle her down. But she generally falls asleep for the night not too long after that. And once she's out, she's out! We watch loud movies with the TV right next to her door and she doesn't wake up.

A nod to Laura

This week Laura's baby is as long as a bell pepper:

Rollin' rollin' rollin'

Anja was really squirmy this morning so put her down on her belly, which she liked. I was in the next room grabbing some laundry and when I came back she was on her back. I put her on her belly again and she did this right away:
